Blackhawks Captain Finally Scores but the Team Needs A Little More

This past Saturday at the United Center, the Chciago Blackhawks hosted the Dallas Stars which prevailed in a loss. The Blackhawks fell behind 2-0 in the second period, goals were scored by Brenden Morrow (02:17 - 2nd) and Mike Ribeiro
(05:10 - 2nd). It looked like the Hawks were struggling to score a goal but that was before Troy Brouwer scored his first goal of the season to only trail by one(5:44- 2nd). Just minutes later, Dalls scored again to make the
score 3-1. The goal was scored by Toby Petersen (09:31 - 2nd) which was also his first goal of the season. Chicago was now trailing 3-1 and time was winding down in the 2nd period. Jonathan "Captain Serious" Toews scored his first goal of the season (16:24 - 2nd) to make the score 3-2 going into the 3rd period.

The Dallas Stars took the lead in the 3rd periond with a goal by
Stephane Robidas (10:27 - 3rd) which was also his first goal of the season. This goal brings me to the main point of this blog entery. Cristobal Huet has had his rough times in net but this is probably one of the worst goals he has let up. I just don't understand how a professional goaltender can let up a goal that easily.

Huet has played a total of 230 career games; he has 105 wins and 78 losses with only 20 shut outs. I personally think that the Blackhawks have all the tools they need to win a Stanley Cup except goaltending. If the Hawks are serious about bringing the Stanley Cup back to Chciago (not happened since the 1960-1961 series), I think our goaltenders need to get a lot tougher and stop letting the oppenents score on them so easily. There are times when the oppenents make our goaltenders look silly.
Hall of Fame goaltender Glenn Hall, also known as "Mr. Goalie," is the best goaltender that Chciago ever had. The goaltender owns the National Hockey League record for consecutive games by a goalie (502) without ever wearing a facemask. That is seven seasons, every game, every minute. Hall was fearless in the nets, he was not afraid to sacrafice his body for the team.

I feel that the goaltenders today, not only on Chciago but in the NHL as a whole; do not play with the same swagger as Glenn Hall did. Hall is one of the best goaltenders to ever play the game and I believe that every goaltender should learn from him. If I were coaching pee wee hockey or even high school hockey, I would have my goaltenders watch and study how Glenn Hall played the game of hockey. The Chicago Blackhawks have so much potential this year and I truly believe that they can bring the Stanley Cup back to Chicago. I just think that Cristobal Huet needs to start playing like "Mr. Goalie" instead of "Mrs. Goalie."

The "ROAR" is Back

The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 to improve their winning steak to three in a row.The Hawks were lead by scorers P. Sharp, J. Skille, K. Versteeg and C. Barker. This puts the Blackhawks to a 4-1-1 record, leading the Western Conference Central Division. With a spectacular season last year, Chicago is looking to skate that extra stride and win the Stanley Cup. It seems that the old Blackhawks are back; the team is loaded with lots of young men who are dedicated to not only this team, but the city as well.
This group of talented men have brought hockey back to Chicago. After attending the Blackhawk Convention for the second year in a row, it is clear to see how much the Chicago fans are behind their home town team. Not only are these young men great hockey players, but people as well. Having met many of the players these past two years, it is easy to see that the players want to talk to there fans and hear what they have to say. As a fan this is so important to see because then we feel like we know them.I feel that the Blackhawk Convention has brought the "ROAR" back to the United Center. If you have not been to a Blackhawk game recently, I highly recommend you do so; there is no better environment to be in. Once that puck drops in Chicago, the fans know that their home town team is going to win. The Chicago fans have always been there (in good times and in bad).
October 12th is a perfect example of what I am trying to say. The Calgary Flames scored 5 goals on the Hawks in the 1st period. The Hawks knew they had to step it up and start playing. Chicago ended up winning the game in OT 6-5 with a game winning goal by Brent Seabrook.

I believe that this makes the team play their hearts out; not only because they want to win but because they do not want to let down their fans. They love to here the "ROAR" that the fans bring to the United Center.

The Chicago Bears! Everything But 'BUTKUS' and 'SWEETNESS'

Having watched the Chicago Bears up till now has been very exciting with the teams new quarterback; Jay Cutler. The Bears look to improve there record this Sunday (October 18th 2009)when they play against the Atlanta Falcons, in Atlanta. I think that this week the Bears have a great chance of winning. However; I would like to say that I think our home town Chicago Bears need to step it up as a team. The team needs to learn how to start playing with "a little Butkus" in them. I have yet to see a big hit from either sides of the ball.
The Bears defense needs to strat hitting oppenents with authority as Dick Butkus did throughout his eight year career. Remind the offense that they are playing the Chicago Bears and that they are about to go to war. The defense needs to start making other teams afarid of playing them, just as Butkus did. Can you imagine if every defensive player played like Butkus? The organization would have to give them a raise just so they could pay all the fines. There would be no NFL team that would want to play the Bears.

The offense on the other hand nees to start playing with "a little Sweetness" in them. Chicago has just picked up one of the best quarterbacks in the league today. They need to start helping him out if they expect to keep winning. They need to play with the mentality of Walter Payton. The Chicago Bears have always been known as a "power house." I think that the bears need to start running the ball a lot more in order for the team to get back to that.
In order to do that the running backs start running hard and hitting the hole with a some authority. I feel that our running backs have been hitting the holes as if they were afraid of some contact. It is time to man up and start playing hard. Payton played everygame with the mentality that he was going to run over every defender.
I feel that if our running backs start hitting the holes hard and wanting to hit somebody that defenses will start packing in the middle. This will open oppurtunity for Jay Cutler to start showing off his arm.
Just because these legends are no longer playing, does not mean that the team cannot contiue on playing in their footsteps. I think once the Chicago Bears bring back the mentality of these legends, then, and only then will the Chicago Bears win the Super Bowl.

Sidney Crosby Reebok Advertisment

This is my favorite advertisment because I am a huge fan of Sidney Crosby, I love hockey and I like Reebok. Reebok did a great job for choosing such a great athlete. Sid "The Kid" Crosby is 21 years old, the youngest player on the pittsburgh penguins and is the team Captain. That should tell you something right there, Crosby is a leader on and off the ice. He is a great romodel to look up to.

This advertisement is successful because right away it shows a Stadium lighting up. That will catch the eye of every sports fan and athlete. Then Reebok shows Crosby taping his "Reebok" stick, then they show him working out with "Reebok" shoes and with a "Reebok" hat. Right away you know it is a advertisement for Reebok. They get their brand name out to the viewers. As Crosby is doing all these things he is talking about different situations that happen in a hockey game that he cannot control. Right after this, Reebok shows Sidney Crosby picking up the puck with his stick, doing a 360 and then throwing the puck top shelf. Even though Crosby cannot control what happens in a game, he can control what what kind of gear he will use. Sidney Crosby is one of the best hockey players in the NHL and what Reebok is telling the viewers is that if you wanna be the best, you want to choose Reebok.
